I'm continuing my year of gamejams by taking part in the Tiny Library Jam.
This jam had a wonderful requirement of a tabletop RPG or TTRPG supplement that fits on a business card. This idea of a full game which was so small really
interested me so I built something simple very quickly.
BONFIRE as the name suggests is a game heavily inspired by Dark Souls and the central idea from the series of fleeting cooperation or union which will never last long. Rather than focus on the combat or trying to build an in depth RPG system I instead focused on the simple concept of the fleeting moments when two players worlds join.
Played as a 2 player short game BONFIRE simply requires you to roll a d6 to come up with a prompt and then detail your story to the other player. Alternate generating prompts and creation your characters history and detailing the world they have been exploring. After 6 prompts the game ends an your characters worlds have been separated once again.
I also wanted to have a mechanic that mimics the gap between the players worlds. After each prompt the bridge allowing the players worlds to join weakens and each player should reduce the detail of each prompt, becoming more vague and open to interpretation. This helps speed up the game by allowing detailed stories to gain a feel for the character or world at the start of the game before devolving into a more open and dreamlike stories towards the end.
